The movie that gave news channels a long lasting breaking news ( at least for Hindi ones) has released , and it is doing very well. It opened at number one with an estimated $65 million on its first weekend in US and $160 million in foreign markets, totaling $225 million worldwide.
The director of the movie Roland Emmerich who is well known for making disaster movies that are filled with great visual effects effects and involving concepts like world-in-trouble and like Independence Day, Day after Tomorrow and Godzilla, has given us this one which has it all ,after all its about our worlds end yaar..
The story revolves around( apart from DOOMSDAY of course) Jackson Curtis ( john cusack) with his family , a Russian billionaire his son & girlfriend, Adrian Helmsley (Chiwetel Ejiofor) scientific advisor to the President and few other people who fit in either to help our hero or to die a visually spectacular death like a weird RJ /conspiracy theorist, Helmsley’s papa , a Chinese lama , a Chinese worker , President & his daughter & few others. Although there are few characters that are supposed to give the background of main characters and a little emotions, but almost all the characters lack the depth and relations of the movies central family is not very well justified, I felt a resemblance
with the family of Tom Cruise in War of the Worlds.
In the movie the reason behind all this catastrophe are solar flairs that trigger some action or reaction (that I don’t understand) which result in earth’s core heating up , increasing temperatures , super tsunamis and eventually major part of land falling (literally) in the water and a change in our geography due to cruste displacement. An Indian scientist discovers it and a visiting friend who is also scientific advisor to the President takes this info to US. There without any discussions and trouble president agrees to raise this topic in G8 meeting. Next thing they show is that
Our protagonist who is a writer cum limo driver gets to know about all this thanks to a weird conspiracy theorist and kids of his boss. What follows next are efforts of john cusack to reach CHINA in a journey filled with beautiful visual effects, some comedy, and a lot of destruction this group they narrowly escape multiple catastrophes and finally after many twists and turns and close shaves reach their destination. This journey comprises the major part of the movie.
While our hero is busy traveling some other stories including a love story bloom start developing.
The strength of the movie are its visuals (awesome), and the movie is full on entertainer.
I must say that ,despite some scientific inaccuracies and and lack of character depth,
This disaster movie is a must watch ,you will surely enjoy it , but I think this one of those movies that deserves to be seen on big screen.
